I can't not cry. Not only does this reflect the scene where Sanji's mother does the same, but it reflects when Zoro ate the dirt covered Onigiri at the start. It shows not just how kind Luffy is, but how much he loves his crew, and how much Sanji loves the Straw Hats. It's the purest form of love and friendship, when you're willing to put whatever in your body because your friend made it for you. One Piece will always be in my heart

One of the best parts about this, to me at least. We see Luffy scarf down food like a pig all the time before. But with this, with this food in particular, he's savoring it. Not wanting to let all of Sanji's efforts in making this food go to waste.

It took me a while to figure out why this scene felt so nostalgic to me, and then it suddenly hit me not long ago: this is just like Luffy and Zoro’s first exchange back at Morgan’s marine base. Helmeppo had just trampled all over Rika’s rice balls for Zoro after tasting them and being disgusted with how sweet they were (she used sugar instead of salt because she thought it would taste better), and then Zoro asked Luffy to feed him the now sullied rice balls after everyone else left. Luffy at the time thought that it was nothing but dirt, yet Zoro still wanted to eat it and said that it tasted good (even if it wasn’t tasty, he could tell Rika put a lot of effort into it and didn’t want her feeling so down after what transpired). I wonder if Luffy thought back to that and both Sanji’s and Jinbei’s speeches about starving and eating to live when he saw what happened to Sanji’s bento.

One thing that makes this scene hit even harder is that luffy isn't wasting it by not eating That's something sanji follows whole heartily Luffy is following sanji's code of food

This ,, dont lie’’ Shows perfectly how devastated and broken Sanji from the inside is… doubting himself his capabilities doubting everything it shows what kind of depression sanji is going through… damn that’s pain

This scene is great cause when Sanji tells Luffy to not lie about its quality being great he knows deep down that Luffy can't really lie anytime he tries it's very obvious yet here you see him eating away looking happy. A small detail that Oda also adds here is not having Luffy just devour all the food right away and have him get back up ready to go like he usually does. He instead sits down and eats it like a normal person would savoring all the food's flavor before getting back up, letting Sanji know Luffy appreciates all the hard work he put into making it and bringing it to him despite turning on him.
