Most popular polish dumplings are traditional "Pierogi Ruskie" - stuffing made of cottage cheese and potato mass. Pierogi Ruskie , incorrectly translated as "Russian", come from the Ru艣 Czerwona - the Red Ruthenia region. Today borderline region of Poland and Ukraine.
Dumplings from the supermarket are the worst, it's better to buy them in a milk bar or restaurant, or make them yourself ;)
I鈥榣l be in Warsaw for the first time in October. I鈥檓 really looking forward to trying pierogi for the first time in Poland. I鈥檓 sure they are better than the frozen ones we get imported from Poland here in Toronto. Thanks for the information)
@4:52 it's exactly 1,5 $ being precise 馃榿 My parents would teach you how to make real, home made, pierogi with cabbage and mushrooms haha
You are making me Hungry Jack, Seriously. Good lesson to learn on food.
It's different versions of pierogi, it's like comparing it to Asian countries dumplings. The idea is the same, but the making and insides are different. Pierogi similar to Polish ones are something that also Ukraine and Czech for example have. Also the name "pierogi ruskie" that are a thing in Poland aren't "Russian" since the word "ruskie", even tho it might sound or look like it, isn't even really correlated with Russia (but even many people here think it is 馃槄馃槀).
There's a Polish joint in Clearwater, FL that has all kinds of pierogi and they drop them on boiling oil, just like french fries = delicious 馃帀
These most popular are called in Poland - Russian pierogi actually ; ) They were also used as a preservative, u can store them longer and then eat only inside of them if the outside is spoiled. Yeah we do it with sauce also, its common food and u can do whatever u like. That is just cottage cheese covered with doe. Worst supermarket quality but not bad anyway.
First of all, dumplings from a "pierogarnia" are much better than dumplings from the supermarket. It's better to pay extra and eat something really good. If you have to buy it in a supermarket, dumplings from "Biedronka" are better than those from "Lidl". As long as you don't get trampled by pensioners, don't trip over pallets of goods and chase away drunk bums in front of the store, buy those from "Biedronka".
I grew up in a Ukrainian family, my parents came from the Carpathian region and I cook them in butter with onions. Also have to have sour cream on top. We have several pierogi restaurants here in Pennsylvania and they make them fresh. By the way I am planning to visit Lviv but have to fly to Warsaw. Any suggestions?
DONT EAT PIEROGIS FROM THE MARKET WTF
艂apki w gore za pierogami :)
,,Ruskie'' name is dumplings from historical region in Poland teritory in XVl or XVll century
Ryski it鈥檚 an old term which refers to many Slavs in ancient times . So those pierogies aren鈥檛 Russian . Russia emerged as a state way later than Poland and Ukraine and decided to steal the term Rus to themselves while as I said it actually means Slavs. Now they claim that all Slavs are Russians . But Eastern Europe knows the history of cause . It鈥檚 like I鈥檇 call my town USA and will claim USA is now mine 馃槄馃榿
Lidl, Biedronka etc are the worst markets with the worst products you can buy in Poland.
You should be an actress.
Pierogi najlepsze z cebulka podsma偶ana czy skwarkami np. No i tak pierogi sa Polskie tak jak w贸dka :D
Nie kupuj w Lidlu, to Niemca kram. Lepiej w Dino albo z dwojga z艂ego w Biedronce. Volksdeutch'e kupuj膮 w Lidlu ;)
