Let's not forget that the US did the same to Japan in the 1980s. How they did to Huawei was like like how they did to Toshiba of Japan and Alstom of France. US and China's tension goes back to the 19th century. It isn't new. They had also fought each other during the Korean War. Hence, I believe the Chinese understand the US too well. The famous quote of Henry Kissinger: "To be an enemy of the US is dangerous. To be a friend of the US is fatal. " That has been proven in the Ukraine situation now where Biden proudly proclaimed during the start of the Ukraine war the UNWAVERING support for Ukraine. Under the current Trump administration, Ukraine is been forced to accept Russia's peace deal or that the US will cut their funding totally. Hence, Taiwan and the Philippines will face the same kind of predicament in the near future if they still refuse to see the light, or perhaps they saw it but is just playing along. After all, both Taiwan and the Philippines are not short of intelligent people.

Bigger issue is lack of trust in a country that changes its mind, and walks away from trade deals, agreements, treaties, whenever it feels like. There's no continuity or reliability on any commitment it makes. Who in their right mind would invest billions into the U.S., only to have it seized or destroyed on a whim over some pretext a mere few years down the road?

Obviously, Trump and gang had not read the 2024 Nature Diversity Report on the top 500 universities and their quality research to the world. Other than a 1st place US university, followed by a string of China universities being listed.
