Lent starts with Ash Wednesday on March 5th. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is taking more notice of observing this 40 day period along with the other Christian churches, in our own way. So no, it’s not like putting up the Christmas tree a week before Thanksgiving. It is spiritually preparing for the most sacred Christian holiday, Easter.

I served my mission in Moscow, Russia. That’s where I learned from the believers that as an Easter greeting they say “Христос воскрес! Воистину воскрес!” “Christ is resurrected! In truth, resurrected!” It made quite the impression on me! I’ve loved it ever since and say it to Russian speakers when I get the chance. :)
