I was working in a hospital in Las Vegas when an Ebola case arrived. We weren’t understaffed and we had a whole host of resources, including masks and communication with the CDC and several international health agencies. The reason Ebola didn’t take (it had a 40% mortality rate then) was because things were shut down correctly and hospitals had more staff back then. To a large degree, I blame COVID-19 on rich men who wanted to save money on labor and who have the legal right to declare economic hardship instead of taking on cases who don’t have health insurance. Also, we spent more in preventative care. Prior to COVID-19, there was a rejection of a plan to vaccinate the worlds bat population. Had they spent one million dollars then, it would have saved us trillions of dollars. This is why DOGE isn’t as good a plan as people claim it is. On its surface some of the cuts look good but when they are in research, it’s not a good idea. We tripped over dollars to try to save pennies when DOGE did a lot of the cuts.
