I love the Geshelli J2 with the AKM chip! And I definitely recommend a decent 12V (25W to 50W) linear power supply. And even better is the new J2S - which is a version that has DIP8 sockets for the 3 op-amps in the J2. It costs just $10 more, with the same OPA1656 op-amps as the J2. You can opt for OPA1612 op-amps for $10 each - you can get 1 for the RCA singled ended output, or 2 of them for the XLR balanced output - or 3 for all of them. You could also order the amazing Sparkos SS3602 discrete op-amp. Or, you can buy any number of dual op-amps.
Another great review Mike. I think that Geshelli DAC is one of the coolest looking devices that I have seen in quite some time. I would want that just so I could look at it while listening to music. Kind of like looking at a vintage piece. The added bonus of great sound is icing on the cake.
I love my J2! It is the best upgrade to my main system I've ever made.
I just got my J2 AKM w USB delivered yesterday. I can already tell there is an improvement over the in device DAC in my BlueSound Node N130.
I have the Cambridge CXC transport and I went with the Denafrips Ares 2. I am very happy with this combo. Thanks for the video
Thank you for this review Mike. I have owned the J2 DAC(orig chip) for about 6 months and I love it!! I connect it to a WiiM Mini via spdif while connecting my CD player through the coax. I got another noticeable sonic improvement when I bought a power conditioner with Linear Level noise filtration circuits and plugged all 3 into that. Suffice it so say that I'm enjoying great sound for not a lot of money. Thanks again Mike, I really enjoy your vids.
Thanks for the video Mike. They have a beast of an integrated coming out in the near future that caters to 2ch. The Zoofa. It looks bad to the bone.
Hi Mike the AKM fire was in Japan, not China.
My two favorite DACs are : Audio Alchemist TDS1 and North Star Design 192. Super musical black boxes
I have the same Igonokami😊 Thanks for your enthusiastic reviews
Love the look of this unit. Would like to pair this to a Wiim Ultra streamer and see if it makes it sound as good as the EverSolo Streamer, for less money.
I wish Giselli would make a J2 without the XLR outputs and just USB, optical and S
Nice review. The cheapaudioman made the same comparison some time ago, with the Zen One Signature, with similar results. In both cases I wondered what would be the conclusion should the Geshelli J2 be compared with the Zen dac Signature V2, which is a pure USB DAC, suposed to be a notch above the Zen One, and costs 300 USD, just as the J2. I own this DAC and use it with the Zen Stream, both powered by IpowerX, feeding a Hegel H120, with excellent results. I wonder whether the J2 would be a real improvement over my current V2 Dac. In any case, the J2 looks really cool. Cheers
Another wonderfully enthusiastic product review. Any plans to review Geschelli's companion amp?
I use the PS Audio Direct Stream DAC MK2. Sound is amazing.
You gotta love the XLR outputs on a device in this price class, not to mention... That sound quality. It's really good, and something that I actually felt good about buying because it's supporting a family owned business. The only thing I've had to complain about concerning Geshelli Labs products is the wait time, and that's OK. I've waited for numerous Schiit products as well. If it's worth it, I'm OK with waiting for it.
Boys got that Jansport drip in the background. This guy was in school in the 90's. Screams Greenday and warheads candy when I see one of those.
Crazy question but how does this DAC sound playing movies 🎥. Our multi purpose room is set up for 2.1 music and movies 🍿.
I'd be interested to know if the Geshelli would be an upgrade to the DAC in the Bluesound Node.
