Sicilian lady here. Yes, you find this in my home. But I don’t do the mashing, I like to eat the broccoli intact. Tip: throw in a pat of butter at the end. Use orecchiette.

@KogaGio

As an Italian I can say this is something we ate every Friday. Minus the parm / we always used pecorino.

@sublimegirl1

Humble, every-day food is often so much better than restaurant classics. Thank you for sharing ❤

@lfior

If you feel lazier here’s an alternative my Italian/Greek dad makes, even healthier than this: boil the broccoli in water in the pot where you plan to cook the pasta. When it's soft, remove it. Cook the pasta as you would normally, in the broccoli infused water. Once cooked al dente, drain pasta, mix the two, broccoli is soft so will crumble, no need to mash, and drizzle with fresh olive oil and if you so wish grated parmigiano. I think he adds lemon too but I don’t 🎉

YUPPP. I’m Italian and can definitely confirm. This is also my favourite dish and my mom makes it any time I’m sad or it’s my birthday etc 😂

Nice … LOVE this Peasant Food Series.

Easy, Simple, Delish.

@Bruiser1651

I'm eating this right now, from your recipe. My gosh, it's delicious!!! Thank you!

@Just-Call-Me-J9

This sounds perfect for frozen broccoli that i can never get to be crunchy.

@pizzazzincorporated4583

I make this with cauliflower. No one even knows the anchovies are there but they are what gives the dish its richness. Love it.

@axsheldon

My Italian mom would make a recipe similar. She used pepperoni instead of anchovies and didn’t smash the broccoli. I loved it as a kid. When she died I told my aunt how I would miss that. My aunt laughed that it was so simple. I knew that but it’s. Ever quite the same. 😊

@mamawvondak

Smashing the broccoli was a total plot twist for me. Looks and sounds yummy!

@cup_o_TMarie

Fits right into Good Friday & Lent meals.

@azbeaux

A version of that is my favourite meal. There is something magic about the combination of garlic, broccoli and anchovies!!

@MafiaGirl00

Brocoli and cheese is always a fantastic combo
