My grandfather was in a work camp (by force) he never talked about it. I don’t even know what camp he was in. I’m now looking for it I just want to know what he went true. And I understand he didn’t want to talk about it

The four Operation Gomorrah bombing raids against Hamburg occured late July and early August 1943, and it's more of a myth that the heavy bombing of German cities during WW2 was to make the population turn against the nazi regime and overturn it, and that unfortunately didn't happen either. Hamburg was an industrial city, and research from the Blitz had shown that industry areas wasn't as easily destoryed as public houses. Firebombing housing areas was meant to ruin the basic livelihood for factory workers, and this way the work force would be expelled. About one million people evacuated the city after the raids, and 61% of the housing stock was destroyed or damaged. The city's labour force was however reduced by no more than ten percent, and the bombing of Hamburg's crucial war industrial infrastructure went on throughout the war.
