Alpha Blondy : Story behind Jerusalem's song

Le « Prix Jerusalem » m’a été remis par SEM Leo Vinovezky , l’ambassadeur d’Israël en Côte d’Ivoire ce jeudi 9 juin 2022.
C’est un prix qui récompense les artistes ou scientifiques qui oeuvrent pour améliorer les relations et la liberté entre les peuples, la tolérance entre les religions.
À cette occasion, je remercie profondément l’État d’Israël pour cet immense honneur qui me touche et c’était l’occasion pour moi d’expliquer dans mon discours comment Dieu m’a soufflé la chanson « Jérusalem », cet hymne à la paix des peuples et des religions.
Une bénédiction qui m’a frappé lors de mon premier voyage en Israël en 1985 alors que je priais au Saint-Sépulcre sur la tombe de Jésus, j’ai entendu la ligne de basse resonner dans ma tête… puis cela devenait de plus en plus obsédant.
J’ai demandé à mes amis israéliens comment on dit «Je te salue, Dieu». Et ils m’ont dit «Barouh ata Adonaï». Et j’ai demandé comment on dit «Salut à toi, Jérusalem». Ils m’ont répondu: «Barouh aba Yeroushalaïm».
La chanson « Jérusalem » a été écrite à Jérusalem et je pense que c’est la ville qui l’a écrite.
Je suis très fier de ce prix car j’ai toujours voulu qu’un pont de la paix existe entre les peuples.
DIEU est Amour. Dieu est Un.❤️

The "Jerusalem Prize" was presented to me by HE Leo Vinovezky, the Israeli Ambassador to Côte d'Ivoire this Thursday, June 9, 2022.
It is a prize that rewards artists or scientists who work to improve relations and freedom between peoples, tolerance between religions.
On this occasion, I deeply thank the State of Israel for this immense honor that touches me and it was an opportunity for me to explain in my speech how God whispered to me the song "Jerusalem", this hymn to the peace of peoples and religions.
A blessing that struck me on my first trip to Israel in 1985 as I was praying in the Holy Sepulcher at the tomb of Jesus, I heard the bassline ringing in my head…then it got louder and louder obsessive.
I asked my dismissed friends comment said 'Hail, God'. And they said to me "Barouh ata Adonaï". And I asked for a comment on said 'Hail to you, Jerusalem'. They answered me: “Barouh aba Yerushalaim”.
The song “Jerusalem” was written in Jerusalem and I think the city wrote it.
I am very proud of this prize because I have always wanted a bridge of peace to exist between peoples.
God is love. God is one.
