Improve eyesight & focus with Trataka Dhyan

You can practice Trataka in the morning or evening hours. It is best done if you’re sitting crossed legged on the floor, but if that’s not possible, you can sit on a chair and practice too.

Keep the flame of a diya or candle at eye level at an arm’s distance from you.

Start by gazing at the flame for 10 breath cycles and then close your eyes for 5 breath cycles. Repeat this cycle 3 times. After this practice palming - Rub the hands together to generate heat and then cover the eyes to transfer the warmth. Do this 3 times as well and then open your eyes gently.

Things to remember

Remove your spectacles or lenses before the practice
Do not practice if you have had eye surgery in the last 3 months
In case of glaucoma, please avoid the practice
Children above the age of 10 can practice this meditation
