Russia claims it has recaptured Kursk’s biggest town from Ukraine

Russia claimed Thursday that its troops had driven the Ukrainian army out of the biggest town in Russia’s Kursk border region. Moscow's troops had also recaptured two other villages, Melovoi and Podol, the ministry said.

The renewed Russian military push and Putin’s high-profile visit to his troops came as U.S. President Donald Trump presses for a diplomatic end to the war.

During Putin's visit to the western Russian region of Kursk on Tuesday, for the first time since Ukrainian forces seized some territory in the region, he said, "People who are in the Kursk region, who commit crimes against civilians here, who oppose our armed forces, law enforcement agencies and special services... are the people we should certainly treat as terrorists."
