Four Different Heart Attitudes | Lesson 1 | 8-25-2024

FOUR DIFFERENT HEART ATTITUDES
Mark 4:1-20 Key Verse: 9
“Then Jesus said, `He who has ears to hear, let him hear.’”

FIRST, PATH-LIKE HEART

V. 3-4, “’Listen! A farmer went out to sow his seed. As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up.”

V. 14-15, “The farmer sows the word. Some people are like seed along the path, where the word is sown. As soon as they hear it, Satan comes and takes away the word that was sown in them.”

The solution: Don’t be FOOLED by Satan

Romans 8:28: “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”

SECOND, THE ROCKY HEART

V. 5-6, “Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root.”

The solution: Take DEEP ROOTS in God’s word

Romans 6:12-14, “Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires. Do not offer any part of yourself to sin as an instrument of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer every part of yourself to him as an instrument of righteousness. For sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace."

THIRD, THE THORNY HEART

V. 7, “Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants, so that they did not bear grain.”

V. 19, “But the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful."

Matthew 6:33, “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”

The solution: Have FAITH in God

FOURTH, THE GOOD HEART

V. 20, “Others, like seed sown on good soil, hear the word, accept it, and produce a crop--thirty, sixty or even a hundred times what was sown.”

Galatians 5:22-23 (NIV), “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.”

Romans 12:1, “Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship."

The solution: Keep on CULTIVATING.

ONE WORD: Cultivate a good heart!
