Remember Remember the 5th of November - Guy Fawkes & The Gunpowder Plot | Bonfire Night Poem

"Remember, Remember The 5th of November" is a popular traditional rhyme in the UK, recalling the Gunpowder Plot of 1605, when Guy Fawkes and his co-conspirators attempted to blow up the Houses of Parliament to assassinate King James I. Their plan failed when Guy Fawkes was caught guarding barrels of gunpowder in the cellars of the House of Lords.

Every year, the 5th of November is commemorated across the UK as Guy Fawkes Night, also known as Bonfire Night or Fireworks Night. People celebrate with fireworks, bonfires, and burning effigies of Guy Fawkes. In some places, these effigies have been replaced with celebrity or political figures.

Guy Fawkes remains an iconic historical figure, referenced in books and films, including Harry Potter, where Dumbledore's phoenix "Fawkes" is named after him.

This animated video is perfect for teachers, classrooms, and anyone wanting to learn about the history of Bonfire Night!

Poem Lyrics:
Guy Fawkes, Guy Fawkes, 'twas his intent
To blow up the King and the Parliament
Three score barrels of powder below
Poor old England to overthrow
By God's providence he was catch'd
With a dark lantern and burning match
Holler boys, holler boys, let the bells ring
Holler boys, holler boys, God save the King!
