At Castel Sant’Elmo in Naples, artist Paolo Puddu turned a simple handrail into an immersive, inclusive experience.

His installation, Follow the Shape, features Braille inscriptions describing the breathtaking Campania landscape from Mount Vesuvius to the Gulf of Naples. 🌊🌋

Many historical sites lack accessibility for blind visitors, but this project changes that by translating the scenery into words. The text comes from La Terra e l’Uomo (1919) by Giuseppe De Lorenzo, allowing visitors to “feel” the landscape through storytelling.

Without altering the castle’s structure, Puddu introduced a powerful layer of accessibility and inclusion, proving that preservation and innovation can coexist.
