Galatians 4:21-31, KV 31
“Therefore, brothers and sisters, we are not children of the slave woman, but of the free woman.”

Daily Bread
1) We are children of promise, not law.
Paul uses the story of Hagar and Sarah to make an important point: like Isaac, we are not children born from human effort, but from God’s promise. For college students, this means that your worth isn’t tied to your achievements, grades, or how well you follow the rules. Your true value comes from God’s promise through faith in Christ. When you feel overwhelmed by pressure or the need to fit in, remember that your real identity is as a child of promise. Embrace this truth with confidence, and let it guide you to live freely and by faith!

2) Embrace freedom from slavery.
Just as Sarah was told to cast out Hagar and Ishmael to ensure that Isaac would be the true heir, we are called to cast off our old ways of bondage to sin and legalism. This passage encourages us to reject any return to 'slavery'—whether that means conforming to peer expectations or adhering to rigid religious rules. Instead, embrace the freedom Christ offers. Identify areas in your life where you may be falling into the trap of external expectations or self-imposed standards that aren't rooted in the gospel. Make a conscious choice to live in the freedom of God’s grace, focusing on what He says about you rather than what the world demands.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for the freedom that comes from being a child of Your promise. Help me to not fall back into the patterns of slavery, but to live freely and joyfully in the liberty You have provided through Jesus. Teach me to embrace my identity as Your child, free from the old ways of bondage.

One Word: Freedom in Jesus Christ!
