As we look forward to the transformative possibilities of AI and generative AI for productivity and innovation in the healthcare industry, policy and regulation are going to be critical to help ensure that the technologies are used in an effective, safe and ethical manner. Policymakers are already calling for more robust regulations, guidelines and policies that focus on responsible AI practices—encouraging standards for information privacy and transparency, and the promotion of unbiased, culturally-sensitive, and ethical handling of data. What will be the consequences for patients if clinicians become increasingly more reliant on AI in diagnostic and therapeutic decision making? How will patient outcomes be at risk if the regulatory landscape is not in lockstep with the pace of AI innovation? What will the future look like as AI technologies are increasingly applied to health care administration, clinical research, and health insurance? These questions and more will be at the center of this session.
This video features a panel discussion from the second annual GW Business & Policy Forum: Imagining the Future with AI on April 2, 2024 at the George Washington University in Washington, D.C.
