The outgoing Delhi Assembly set several 'records' in its five-year term starting from 2020. Under the third AAP government, the Delhi Assembly met for 74 days, which is the lowest number of House sittings since 1993. It meant that MLAs met in the House on a average less than 15 days in a year.
The seventh Delhi Assembly passed 14 bills, compared with 32 bills passed during Arvind Kejriwal's second government between 2015 and 2020. Not a single bill was sent for examination by any of the house committees.
The Question Hour became a rare event. It was held only 9 times in five years. On an average, the MLAs asked 15 questions. The BJP MLAs on average asked 40 questions, while the corresponding number for AAP MLAs was 11. On an average, each year 219 questions were asked in the Delhi Assembly between 2020 and 2024.
The discussions on the Delhi Budget were short - 5 hours each in 2021 and 2022. It fell to 4 hours each in 2023 and 2024.
The replies given by the Delhi government departments, in some cases, were found to be "unsatisfactory". It emerged that the revenue, services, land and building and home departments were not giving replies to the questions asked in the Delhi Assembly. Twice, the Speaker expressed his disappointment.
