“Go and tell my servant David, `This is what the Lord says:
Are you the one to build me a house to dwell in?’”
Daily Bread
1) Consult God before acting.
David felt sorry that he was living in a well-made home while the Ark of God remained in a tent. Although his intention was to honor God, he didn’t ask for God’s input! Sometimes we act on our good intentions without consulting God. We might be eager to jump into projects or decisions because they seem like good ideas, but first we need to seek God’s guidance to make sure our actions align with His plans. Take time to pray and ask God for wisdom and direction to ensure your actions are not just good, but also what He wants.
2) Focus on God’s work through us, not just our work for God.
God’s response to David changed David’s focus from what he wanted to do for God to what God was already doing through him. Whether you’re serving in campus ministry or helping at church, remember it’s not just about the tasks you accomplish for God, but about how God is working in you. As you serve Him, He is transforming your heart and life so that You can be used for His plan and be a source of blessing to others. Remember that serving God doesn’t mean we’re doing Him favors. The real work to be honored is God’s work in and through us.
Prayer: Lord, thank You for Your plan of redemption through Jesus and for allowing us to be part of Your eternal kingdom. Teach us to seek Your will first and to recognize the ways You are working through us for Your greater purposes. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
One Word: Praise God’s work in and through our lives!
