“I will place over them one shepherd, my servant David, and he will tend them; he will tend them and be their shepherd.”

1) God’s rejection of selfish leadership.
God criticized the leaders of Israel as selfish shepherds who neglected their responsibility to care for God’s people, focusing only on their own needs. As a result, the people suffered and were scattered. This is a strong warning against self-centered leadership that fails to care for others. We are called to be leaders who nurture, support, and seek the best for others, not only seek our personal gain. If God examined your life as a shepherd, what would He say about you? Remember that regardless of your role in ministry, if you’ve received the gospel, it's your job to share the good news with others too! Will you focus on the needs of others and point them to Jesus?

2) The promise of the Good Shepherd.
God promised to personally intervene by sending His people a shepherd—Jesus Christ. Jesus is the perfect example of love and sacrifice. In John 10:11, He says, “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.” No love can compare to Jesus’ love. He willingly laid down His life for us! When you feel alone or lost in life, remember that Jesus is always beside you, guiding you and protecting you like how a shepherd cares for their flock. He is there in every struggle, offering comfort, wisdom, and hope. Take time to lean on Him and trust that He is leading you toward what is best. Even in difficult moments, remember that Jesus' love for you is constant and unchanging. Will you allow Jesus to guide you today, and follow His example of selfless love for others?

Prayer: God, thank You for giving us Jesus as the perfect example of a shepherd. Help me to lead like Him—caring, selfless, and just. Teach me to be a shepherd who looks out for the needs of others with compassion and integrity. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
