Toccata Energico - Lani Smith (1934-2015) Hauptwerk sample set.

Lani Smith was a prolific composer who is said to have written over 4000 works. An organist himself, Lani Kamiki Smith studied at University of Cincinnati receiving the Master of Music degree in 1959. He won the Josef Bearns prize in composition from Columbia University also in 1959. From 1967-1982 Mr. Smith was music editor, composer and arranger for the Lorenz Publishing company and his name is known by many organists and choir directors, particularly those who serve smaller churches and require pieces tailored for the limited choir.
The most works of his rather vast output, rivaling the amount of some Baroque masters, were for the organ. These pieces are of varying difficulties and like the Toccata heard here are quite accessible to organists of various technical skills. They are also very appealing to congregations who won't sit still for much of the standard organ literature that we organists hold so dear.
Of interesting note: Lani used many pen names. Edward Broughton, Franklin Ritter and David Paxton are among the names he used.
This piece was published in 1990 in the Sacred Organ Journal, a bi-monthly collection for church organists published by Sacred Music Press.(Lorenz Publishing)
The Hauptwerk sample set used is the 1927 E.M. Skinner at Immanuel Presbyterian, Los Angeles CA, created by Evensong music.
