Description:

In this enlightening video, Belal Assaad delves into the profound journey of a believer's soul from the moment of death until its return to the grave. According to Islamic teachings, this journey is marked by the presence of angels, the questioning in the grave, and the ultimate reward or punishment that awaits each soul in the hereafter. Join us as we explore this significant aspect of Islamic eschatology, shedding light on the life after death and the spiritual experiences that follow.

Understanding the Soul’s Journey After Death

When a believer is at the brink of leaving this world, they are met by two beautiful angels from Allah, whose faces are radiant, as if reflecting the light of the sun. These angels bring with them a shroud and perfume from Jannah (Paradise), providing comfort and assurance to the departing soul. At this moment, the angel of death gently calls upon the soul, inviting it to a life of luxury and eternal pleasure as promised by Allah. This moment is depicted as peaceful, as the soul leaves the body effortlessly, like water flowing from a jug, symbolizing a smooth transition from the temporary world (Dunya) to the eternal hereafter (Akhirah).

The Ascension of the Soul

Once the soul is released, the two angels swiftly take it, shrouded and perfumed, and ascend through the heavens. As they pass each level, the soul is warmly welcomed by the angels stationed at various gates, all asking, “Whose beautiful soul is this?” The soul is honored with the best names it was ever called on earth, showcasing the significance of a believer’s good reputation. This ascent is a unique journey that only a righteous soul can experience, passing through realms that remain hidden from the living.

The Return to the Grave

Upon reaching a high station, Allah commands the return of the soul to the grave, where it awaits the questioning. In Islam, the grave is seen as the initial stage of the afterlife. Here, two angels, Munkar and Nakir, approach the soul with an imposing presence, their features so unknown and terrifying that they defy human imagination. They ask the soul three essential questions about its Lord, its religion, and its Prophet. A true believer, fortified by their faith, responds with certainty: "My Lord is Allah, my religion is Islam, and Muhammad (peace be upon him) is my Prophet."

The Reward for the Believer

After answering these questions correctly, the believer's soul is granted peace. The grave expands and transforms into a garden from the gardens of Paradise, filled with light, tranquility, and beauty. The believer is also shown a glimpse of Hellfire, with the reassurance that they have been saved from such a fate due to their obedience to Allah. They are then granted a vision of their place in Jannah, where they will eventually dwell. This beautiful reward inspires them to pray for the end of time so they can finally enter Paradise and be reunited with their loved ones.

The Companionship of Good Deeds

Islamic teachings also reveal that a person’s good deeds take on a physical form, keeping them company in the grave. For the believer, this companion appears with a pleasant face, radiating goodness and comfort. This reflects the intrinsic connection between a believer’s actions in this life and their experiences in the afterlife. As the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) stated, the grave can either be a garden of Paradise or a pit of Hellfire, depending on one’s deeds.

The Significance of Belief in the Unseen (Al-Ghaib)

In Islam, belief in the unseen is a fundamental part of faith. This includes the acceptance of life after death, the existence of angels, and the reality of the grave. The believer’s journey after death emphasizes the importance of preparing for the hereafter through faith, worship, and righteous actions. This description of the afterlife serves as a reminder to live a life of obedience to Allah, with the hope of earning His eternal mercy and reward.
