A few weeks back, I just happened to snag an epic deal on a Moog MF-102 Moogerfooger Ring Modulator...and almost exactly one week later, Warm Audio released their "budget" clone of it!...Obviously, I had to grab that as well and film a comparison video.
Warm Audio absolutely knocked this clone out of the park, I think! They halved the size, gave it a more traditional power requirement, matched the same components as found on the Moog (from what I've heard from other people, at least) giving it a near-identical sound, and even seem to have given the 'LFO Rate' and 'Frequency' knobs an ever-so-slightly wider range. And of course, we have to mention the price, as it's a hell of a lot cheaper to buy a Ringerbringer brand new, than it is to pick up a second-hand Moogerfooger...
Let me know what your thoughts are on these pedals. Does one sound better than the other? Do you even hear a difference at all? Do you prefer the smaller size and lower price of the clone, or do you feel Warm Audio were out of line in making this pedal, and would rather save up and buy the original? Or, should all ring mod pedals just be destroyed with fire? 😜
