Rajasthan celebrates traditional 'Gangaur' festival

Jaipur, Apr 10 (ANI): Dressed in traditional outfits, the people in Rajasthan's Jaipur city danced to the tunes of folk songs to mark 'Gangaur', the 16-day long festival of colours. The festival, which began a day after Holi on March 25, is mainly observed by women, who worship Hindu goddess Gauri. While unmarried women worship goddess Gauri to find a good husband, the married women worship the Hindu deity for the welfare, health and long life of their husbands. The festival also attracted some foreigners, who soaked in the rich festivities.
During Gangaur, the people prepare a sweet dish called 'ghewar', which is characteristic of the festival, and distribute it among friends and families.
