Ezekiel 3:4-27, KV 17
“Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the people of Israel;
so hear the word I speak and give them warning from me.”
Daily Bread
1) Resilience in the face of opposition.
Ezekiel was called to deliver tough messages to a stubborn audience. This teaches us the importance of resilience when facing challenges or opposition, especially from those who might resist change or truth. Build your resilience by setting clear goals, maintaining your focus, and seeking support from others who share your values. Most importantly, depend wholeheartedly on God. When faced with criticism or resistance, remind yourself of your purpose and God’s vision. Even though it’s painful, remember that God uses tough times to make us stronger and better prepared to do His work.
2) The responsibility of awareness.
As a watchman, Ezekiel’s role was to be alert to dangers and warn the people. God gave Ezekiel a big responsibility, saying that God would hold him accountable if Ezekiel didn’t speak out to help someone turn from their sin (v. 18). God wants us to be alert and have the courage to help a fellow Christian when they are going the wrong way. It might be easier and more comfortable to stay quiet, but not correcting another believer is enabling that person to continue in their sin. In your personal relationships, be someone who helps others consider the long-term consequences of their sin and help them come back to God.
Prayer: Lord, strengthen me to face opposition with courage and equip me with the wisdom to act as a watchman for my generation. Help me to understand the struggles of those around me and to speak truth into their lives with love and boldness. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
