If you’ve always wanted to write a novel, this is where to start.

The first step to writing your novel, is to isolate your idea. Take that initial spark and think bigger.

Next up is characters, think about how many characters you need, to tell your story.

Then, write down the parts of the book that you already know, those flashes of story that are driving you to write this novel.

Then start with a sample chapter, whatever part of your book you’re most excited about, you don’t have to start at the beginning.

Then keep going, keep telling the story, making sure at all times to hold tightly onto that original idea and not to forget about how it will connect with people.

Make time to write, make your story a priority. Give it your energy and your patience and keep going.

Trust yourself, and in a little while, you’ll have written a novel.

The best time to start your novel is a year ago, the second best time, is today.

The most important thing when you're new to writing, or a beginner at anything really, is to keep writing. Keep putting down words, paragraphs, plots, characters, you will learn as you go, and you can use the experience of the writing community to fill in the gaps where you're not sure.
