At long last, TV is free!
For years, I have been asked about this sequence, even asked to re-enact my stunning performance, leading me to suspect that in the minds of many, it has been blown all out of proportion. But now you can hear the real thing, and see it in action.
At the time we made this, I believe I spent all of 30 seconds on my performance, having been called into an office to help flesh out a demo as I was on my way down the hall to some different office. I never suspected this tiny piece of a larger demo--shown privately at SIGGRAPH to recruit possible employees--would acquire a mystique of its own.
I cannot pretend to know what people have imagined this sequence to be, so it is probable the reality will come as a disappointment. But here it is, and fans can finally begin to grapple with the reality.
I tracked down the clip several years ago and occasionally I would ask one bigwig or another whether it would be all right to release it for the enjoyment of the persistent, recurrent, curious few. But only now, as Valve officially celebrates the 20th anniversary of HL2, have I received permission to share it as a supplement to the official HL2 anniversary documentary.
I hope it's everything you hoped for, but even if not...
At least it's free.
UPDATE: Holy crap, 100,000 views of this little thing.
