Daily Bread
1) God trains Solomon.
After Solomon turned away from God, God allowed enemies like Hadad the Edomite, Rezon of Zobah, and Jeroboam to rise up against him. These enemies were a chance for Solomon to learn that even rulers with endless riches and wisdom must fully depend on God. Solomon needed this reminder to turn back to God. We need to learn the same lesson. Even with wisdom from the Bible, we are not immune to pride and the corruption of our hearts. We must constantly depend on God’s strength to fight and overcome sin and temptation in our lives. Let’s humbly turn to God and remember that we need Him every day!

2) Solomon’s response to God’s judgment.
God allowed one final enemy to revolt against Solomon—Jeroboam, who was one of Solomon’s own officials. Through the prophet Ahijah, God made it clear that Solomon’s sin would have serious consequences, and He chose Jeroboam to rule over ten tribes of Israel after Solomon’s death. Instead of seeking forgiveness and repentance, Solomon took matters into his own hands and tried to kill Jeroboam (v. 40). This showed the condition of his heart—rather than turning to God, Solomon fought against God’s plan. When we face struggles in our lives, instead of acting out of fear or frustration, let’s turn to God for wisdom, strength, and guidance, trusting in His plan for us. By humbling ourselves, we can avoid making the same mistakes and learn to trust Him in difficult times. Will you turn to God when you face difficulties?

Prayer: Heavenly Father, teach me to depend on You in all things, knowing that I need Your strength and guidance every day. When I face challenges or make mistakes, help me to humbly seek Your forgiveness and trust in Your plan, rather than trying to fix things on my own. Please give me wisdom to follow You closely and overcome sin, so I can grow in my relationship with You. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.

One Word: Turn to God and depend on Him!
