The Bharatiya Jana Sangh (BJS) was founded in 1951 by Shyama Prasad Mukherjee as a nationalist political party in India. It emerged as a right-wing alternative to the Indian National Congress, advocating Hindutva ideology, cultural nationalism, and economic self-reliance. Initially supported by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). In 1977, it merged with other opposition parties to form the Janata Party, opposing Indira Gandhi’s Emergency. After the Janata Party’s collapse, it evolved into the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 1980.
