Commissioned in 70 or 72 AD by the emperor Vespasian, the founder of the Flavian dynasty, it was finished after his death around 80 AD. Vespasian’s son - Titus organized there the Inauguration Games, which lasted for 100 days including “animal entertainment”, executions of convicts, and the most awaited event by the crowds - the gladiatorial combats.
